Rachel started kindergarten today. She was excited and ready to go. Her best friend Sharon is in her class (just lucky, as there are 5 kindergarten classes). But today she went by herself, as the kindergarteners have a staggered start the first week of school. On Thursday, the whole class will be together for the first time.

Taylor adjusted to a full day without her big sis just fine, but kept asking for "RaRa" for a good part of the day.

These portraits of Jill, Rachel and Taylor were drawn on August 18th by a Chinese artist named Jie Li.

Here is a bio of the artist:

Jie Li:
Mr. Jie Li (pronounced "Jay Lee"), a Chinese artist was born in Liaoning, China in 1960. Mr. Li realized his talent for drawing very early in his life when he was just a child. Mr. Li came to the United States in 1987, as a graduate student at the Catholic University of America and majored in cello performing arts. He won the first prize in Concerto competition in 1991 and achieved his doctorate degree in Music Art in 1993.

While performing and teaching cello in the Washington, D.C. area, Mr.Li started his own portrait drawing studio and his clients grew rapidly because of his excellent talent as a portrait artist. His portrait works are beyond just rendering likeness, his art clearly presents the personalities of his subjects; his art is precise and his true talent is exhibited and demonstrated in his works. According to one of our satisfied customers, "Mr. Li's portraits appear to be real (truly life like). He really captures the eyes, to the extent that you really make a connection with the subject. His portraits are truly striking"!

Through many years of hard work, Mr. Li has been commissioned to paint countless portraits. Some of Mr Li's customers include Congressmen, University Deans, Generals, Famous Athletes, Foreign Statesmen and many others. Mr Li's talent is quite diversified… his portraits also includes pets, landscapes and houses.
